Welcome to Our Child Foundation Website
We help abused, exploited, disabled, endangered, and abandoned children.
The Our Child Foundation was founded on 1 October 1993 with the mission of helping children in difficult situations. The foundation is one of the most important non-governmental organizations for the protection of children in the Czech Republic.
The founder and current director of the foundation is Zuzana Baudyšová.
In its first ten years of existence the organization focussed its efforts on building a nationwide toll-free Safety Hotline. The foundation provides significant financial support for this hotline. Our Child likewise assisted in the founding of the Parents’ Hotline and the Message Home Helpline for runaway children operated by the Safety Hotline civic group.
In the second decade of its existence the foundation expanded the spectrum of activities to include help for abused, exploited, disabled, and abandoned children. In 2005 the Legal Aid Hotline was put into operation and in 2007 the INTERNET HOTLINE (www.internethotline.cz) was launched.
The foundation provides direct financial support to non-governmental organizations taking care of troubled groups of children. Through its Puzzle project the foundation distributes between one and two million crowns each year to organizations that help abused, abandoned, and disabled children.
The foundation organizes public awareness campaigns against the mistreatment of children (Red Noses, Stop Violence against Children). The latest campaign, Red Card for Child Abuse, attempts to break through public indifference toward the abuse and mistreatment of children and to inform people of various ways they can help.
The foundation handles individual requests for help, including contributions for the purchase of rehabilitation aids, contributions for personal assistance, support for children in families facing extraordinary social emergencies, support for abandoned children, and many others.
Our Child administers the Foundation Investment Fund and uses the proceeds from these resources each year to support organizations that help threatened children.
The foundation develops cooperation with national and international organizations active in the area of the protection of children and children’s rights. Since 2001 the Our Child Foundation has worked with the European Federation for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children headquartered in Brussels and is a member of the board of this organization.
The foundation is active in the area of fulfilling the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the Czech Republic and Europe. Through EURONET, a non-governmental organization headquartered in Brussels, the foundation makes efforts to ensure that children’s rights are respected in EU Member States and by EU institutions.
Each year the Our Child Foundation presents the Golden Heart award, a prize dedicated to child psychologist Zdeněk Matějček, to the country‘s top guardian of children.
Thanks to its excellent work in the protection of children the foundation has been repeatedly awarded and ranked among the 100 top and most admired organizations in the Czech Republic.
